VOLUNTEER WITH NUTRIFOODIE'S NUTRITION SUMMER CAMPS!
Our campers explore nutrition and healthy living through interactive activities, in depth discussions and cooking. We cook something healthy every day to facilitate those meaningful connections between young nutritionists and their food.
This year our camps are running July 9 - Aug 3, 2018.
All nutrition and cooking camps are held in Vancouver, BC as day camps on week days.
Application deadline is March 18, 2018
or until positions are filled.
Important to Note:
Volunteers are required to get a criminal record check from their local police department, prior to commencing work with nutriFoodie.
Here's the 3 available opportunities:
Camp Leader (10 positions)
Our Camp Leaders have their own mini-clan of campers and support the Camp Instructors in daily camp activities including cooking, crafts, grocery tours, and other games/exercises.
Qualifications and Experience:
There's more opportunities to diversify your experience and participate in additional tasks per interest and availability: recipe testing, crafts and painting, activities & games planning, promotions and advertisements, etc...
** Depending on demand, we will arrange a group first aid training at a discounted price.
Camp Support (3-5 positions)
There are some opportunities to diversify your experience and participate in additional tasks per interest and availability such as recipe testing, crafts and painting, activities & games planning, promotions and advertisements, etc...
I especially need volunteers who have technical and detail-oriented skills such as formatting and poster creation using Canva, or food-focused cooking or food photography skills to help with the recipe testing.
This position can be supplementary to any other position or stand alone depending on your availability and skill-set.
The Camp Support volunteer will be a "floater" in the camp, in which they help groups that require additional support as well as set-up for the next activity. You'll get to work closely with the Lead Camp Instructor with facilitating the activities and make sure we're always on track. This position will entail additional responsibilities towards giving a helping hand to Camp Leaders and their small group of children.
Camp and Food Photographer (2-3 positions)
Our photographer will join us for at least 3 days a week during and snap as many pictures as you are able to within 3 hours.
Provide photos to nutriFoodie using a USB Key at the end of each week.
"Learning how to be assertive with campers helped me develop confidence and grew my leadership skills. Making connections and having fun with the campers made the experience so much more rewarding, knowing that I made a positive impact in their summer. Connecting with so many like-minded people and hearing about their experiences, and receiving advice impacted me by developing friendships and relationships."
- Kim (2017)
"I had the opportunity to contribute to creating a positive environment while sharing my passion for nutrition. I was able to work closely with students in small groups to familiarize them with the basics of cooking and ultimately help them cultivate a greater appreciation for food. Volunteering for the camp gave me the chance to improve my teaching and communication skills, both of which are equally important because the students come from varying backgrounds, have different skill sets and perceptions towards food and nutrition."
- Mei (2015)
"There is only so much you can add on paper and in the Daily Lesson plans. A lot of the daily structure comes down to the instructor and volunteers and how they are able to read their campers. [Critical Thinking] isn't really a component or skill you can teach, but it's probably the most important part. The main priority is to ensure that our campers have positive and meaningful experiences. Navigating an environment where I have to match various personality types with various tasks within a certain time frame is a [good] challenge, but the only way to learn is to by trying, adjusting and re-adjusting."
- Nisha (2016 & 2017)
