This takes me to my next tip, becoming present. In our fast paced, hyper technological world, it's easy to get caught up and put our own health and well-being on the back burner.
Buddha has this great quote, "The secret of health for both mind and body is not to mourn for the past, nor to worry about the future, but to live in the present moment wisely and earnestly." I love this because it incorporates a healthy mind with a healthy body while letting go of worrisome thoughts and we all know that you need to have good mental health in order to feel good physically.
To be present with yourself and to give your presence and complete attention to those around you will not only benefit your relationships but will also recenter your mind and soul.
Tip#4: Become Present
- Is your phone constantly buzzing, beeping, chiming, and dinging? Start turning off distractions. Close the laptop, put the phone away and model technology free behaviour to your kids. Say goodbye to technology and watch your stress go with it.
- Family is important, show them how much you care this year by giving them your full attention by keeping phones away from the dinner table, away from the nightstand and in your bag when interacting with others.
- How to do it: Take a weekend for yourself and those that really matter and go as tech free as possible. Turn off your phone, close that laptop, and take some time for you to recharge. Go see friends face to face and don't worry about texting someone else while trying to have a conversation.
- Check in with yourself throughout the day. Notice how you're feeling and if you're on track for the day. Take a moment to yourself, close your eyes, take a few deep breaths and recenter yourself. If you get busy and don't get to that long task list, don't worry about it too much! Refocus and start fresh tomorrow. This mindful practice will help to keep calmness in other aspects of your life
